Climate Change Database of

Quang Tri Province

About us

In recent years, Quang Tri province has been greatly affected by climate change, from local floods, erosion in some riverbanks, colder winters, hotter summers, drier dry seasons. and the rainy season, it rains more heavily, which greatly affects the lives of people in the province… The increase in the intensity of climate change phenomena such as floods, storms, and sea level rise causes some areas to be regularly flooded such as: Trieu Thanh, Trieu Thuong, Trieu Long, Trieu Ai, Trieu Giang communes of Trieu Phong district; Hai Hoa, Hai Thanh, Hai Que, Hai Tho, Hai Truong, Hai Chanh, Hai Tan communes of Hai Lang district; Dong Luong, Dong Le, Dong Giang and Dong Thanh wards of Dong Ha city; Vinh Long commune of Vinh Linh district; An Don ward of Quang Tri town. This greatly affects the ability to cultivate agriculture in the above areas.

With the current complicated climate change situation, the state management of hydrometeorology and climate change is an urgent issue that needs the attention and direction of the province. Accordingly, building a standard database system on climate change in the province is an urgent task. The database system on climate change will be based on the collection and synthesis of information on climate, hydrology, rainstorms, etc., for the purpose of serving state management, sharing and exploiting data, and supporting supporting the response, minimizing the damage caused by natural disasters, and at the same time helping to optimize the effectiveness of investments in combating climate change. The database on climate change also helps to raise awareness in disaster prevention and mitigation.

Decision No. 2053/QD-TTg dated October 28, 2016 of the Prime Minister promulgating the Plan to implement the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, stating the key tasks for the period 2016-2020 to adapt to climate change. , specifically (1) to implement the requirements on adaptation to climate change prescribed by the Paris Agreement: “Review existing information and data on climate change adaptation, loss and damage; propose additional information, research and methods of data management and sharing to facilitate the development and updating of national contribution reports on climate change adaptation”; (2) to implement climate change adaptation investment activities and co-benefits: “build 01 national database on climate change and update the national action plan to respond to climate change”.

To complete the national database on climate change, it is very necessary to have climate change data from the locality and must be continuously supplemented and updated. The locality is also the place to synthesize, analyze, review and synthesize the final data as input for the national climate change database. At the same time, the implementation and maintenance of the Quang Tri province climate change database also meets the implementation requirements. objectives of Decision 672/QD-BTMT Action plan to respond to climate change for the period 2016-2020. In which, the overall goal is to improve the capacity of disaster forecasting and warning; climate change management and monitoring and strengthening the capacity to respond to climate change in key areas of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment for the period 2016-2020, contributing to the effective implementation of the National Strategy on Climate Change, specifically:

Climate change data of Quang Tri province has aggregated information, supporting the Provincial People’s Committee to make quick and accurate decisions, improving state management capacity on climate change.

Climate change database supports the province to integrate and integrate climate change factors into development programs, master plans and plans in the field of natural resources and environment and related sectors and fields.

The ability to respond to climate change of each sector of the natural resources and environment sector is improved through the identification, implementation, and analysis of climate change data.

The Provincial Climate Change Database also helps to propagate and raise awareness about climate change for both officials and people

These are the 7 main databases of the Climate Change Database of Quang Tri Province

1

Climate change scenario

Including data on average temperature,  maximum temperature, minimum temperature, heaviest 1-day rain, heaviest 5-day rain, average rain according to monitoring data from meteorological and hydrological stations in the region. Quang Tri province and corresponding inundation levels for sea level rise scenarios.

2

INFORMATION, DATA OF GHG Emissions

Data source Database Information and data on greenhouse gas emissions are compiled from the first, second and third biennial update reports (2014, 2017, 2020) of Vietnam for the Convention. The UN framework on climate change includes contents on GHG inventory and GHG emission reduction actions for Quang Tri province.

3

Information and data on impacts of natural disasters Meteorology, Hydrology & Climate Change

Develop a set of climate, climate change and zoning maps to warn of different types of natural disasters such as flash floods, landslides, floods, etc.

4

Climate change finance

Including data, organizational data, climate change support fund of Quang Tri province that have been standardized and presented in the form of GIS maps.

5

Climate change monitoring

The Quang Tri climate standard set includes data sources from 5 EIAs:

  • Climate Change Monitoring Station
  • Temperature monitoring results
  • Rainfall monitoring results
  • Air monitoring results
  • Climate extremes monitoring results

6

Climate Standard

The climate benchmark is a collection of average values of meteorological factors over a certain period of time, usually 30 years; serve as a basis for assessing the climate difference between one place and another, between one period and another.

7

Climate Assessment

Data source is digitized from “Guidelines for Assessing the Impacts of Climate Change and Identifying Adaptation Solutions in 2011, Synthetic Report of the National Climate Assessment Project of the Institute of Meteorology, Geosciences and Climate Change”. 2020…”.
